Lalji Family

In the 1970s, Aminmohamed Lalji and his family and other Ismaili Muslims were ordered out of Uganda by dictator Idi Amin. The family landed in Vancouver, and quietly established themselves as the pre-eminent property owners on B.C.'s Lower Mainland. In Canada, of course, it is the authorities that rely on the Lalji family for a place to stay. Today, the family firm owns nine federal government buildings, including the Revenue Canada head office and RCMP headquarters.
